Abernethy Crew

A picture would be most welcome!

Abernethy arrived at Harrington sans crew as they usually appear in orders, as did Farrell. Between the 17th of August and the 17th of September 1944, he and crewmembers made up mostly from the former White crew at North Pickenham flew eleven Carpetbagger missions. Though the enlisted men varied somewhat from mission to mission, the officers remained the same. Benjamin Street began his career as a dispatcher by transferring from a complement squadron at Harrington in June of 1944, and completed his tour as a substitute on a variety of crews by the spring of 1945. Abernethy and some of the crew flew with the 406th NLS at Cheddington to complete their tour. On their last mission B24 41-29486 was crashed trying to land at Woodbridge in bad weather. An account of the crash and a picture of the plane is available from the following link: Abernethy Incident. Benjamin Street arrived in the UK via a complement unit and trained to be a Gunner on-base, he complete his tour having flown supply missions and the NLS Squadron. Avery Yancey arrived at Alconbury with the Fenster crew, completing 29 Carpetbagger missions by the end of operations in September 1944.
