The Garvey crew arrived at Harrington just two days before the 13 August 1944 reorganization and were immediately attached to the 858th BS. Garvey flew as an observer with James McLaughlin once, then on the night of 15/16 September flew a 12C/7P mission to "MARC 19" in France. Harry Penn and William French were not aboard and it must be assumed they were orphaned. In the picture above, it is probable that Hoerter took the picture and that this was during the gas haul period as those missions were flown with a crew of only five, no gunners. The crew is listed in the Ops Log for five gas-haul missions.
